Sealing Memory
The Sealing Memory series explores wax as a narrative material. Historically associated with preservation, protection, and sealing, wax carries a cultural connection to memory and temporality.
In this series, photographs taken by the artist are encapsulated within translucent wax. Due to varying depths within the material, certain fragments of the images remain clear while others become blurred or obscured, resembling the way memories gradually shift over time. The act of viewing becomes similar to searching for a distant memory, where some details remain vivid while others slowly fade away.
The works also reveal a paradox within preservation itself. While wax functions as a way to preserve and protect memory, it simultaneously creates distance from it. The encapsulated images become isolated behind layers of material and time, transformed into presences that can no longer be fully touched.
