Material & Object

Transform-ing

What is a table?

When does it end to be a table?

This project challenged the notion of daily objects through presenting the transformation of materials.

The forms of the objects represented human’s desire and expectation. The material were continually transforming, breaking the fixed forms of daily objects, and changing viewers’ perspectives to this controlled world.

" This is a work about the temporality of things, that reminds us that reality is not as solid and reliable as it might seem. Using materials that contradict the function of her objects, Ting-Hsuan Chang makes them hyper-vulnerable to the passing of time. Her momentary objects make the processes of metamorphosis and decay visible to the human eye.

Ting-Hsuan Chang’s work can be understood in several ways: as a critique of the capitalist consumption culture, as a poetic way to challenge our habitual understanding of the things that surround us, as an experimental investigation of matter, or as a designer’s manifesto for the non-permanent and ephemeral. "
